PREPARE YOURSELF ADVENTURER. YOUR QUEST AWAITS!

Deep in the woods, hidden in a castle, there are treasures to be found . . . but only by the bravest of adventurers. Are you that brave adventurer? Do you have what it takes to enter the Castle of Doom and make it out alive? If so, read on . . . You’re about to embark on a heroic quest. Your goal is simple. Enter the castle. Find the treasures, then leave the way you came. But pitfalls await you at every turn, sure to bring about your end. Don’t worry, adventurer. I believe in you.

Accompanying you on this epic quest are three valiant companions: Baltus the Dwarf, Kaileth the Elf, and Galfilor the Wizard. Will you find the treasures and escape the Castle of Doom, or will you fall victim to its traps? This first gamebook in the Pick Your Own Quest® series features over 75 rooms within the castle, a myriad of artifacts to discover, and more than 15 ways to meet your demise. Face the Ghost of Merlin, confront the Evil Wizard, navigate the Pit of No Return, and beware as stained-glass windows and shadows come to life.

Are you ready to enter the Castle of Doom?

A book 34 years in the making, Castle of Doom is an interactive adventure gamebook, inspired by a classic video game written in Pascal in 1990 by the author for her college Artificial Intelligence class.

*NOTE: Castle of Doom is a bit different from the standard Pick Your Own Quest books. It's an interactive gamebook. Instead of just making choices, readers keep track of inventory and navigate their way through a castle, hoping to complete a quest. The goal is to complete the quest and escape the castle alive. It's next level Pick Your Own Quest!

Meet Your Questing Party

Baltus the Dwarf from Castle of Doom

Meet Baltus, the jolliest dwarf in the realm! A connoisseur of feasts and a maestro with a pickaxe, he’s as brave as a dragon-slayer and twice as silly. When he’s not mining for gems, he’s hunting for the perfect roast boar or cracking jokes that make the mountains giggle. With a belly full of laughter and a heart of gold, Baltus is the dwarf every questing party wishes they had!

Kaileth the Elf from Castle of Doom

Meet Kaileth, the nimblest elf in the forest! Brave and logical, she approaches every challenge with a methodical mind and a quiver full of arrows. Her precision with a bow is legendary, and she can hit a target while balancing on a tree branch mid-cartwheel. When she’s not perfecting her archery skills, she’s devising clever plans that leave even the wisest wizards scratching their heads.

Galfilor the Wizard from Castle of Doom

Meet Galfilor, the wizard with style! Armed with a trusty wand and a knack for brewing a mean healing potion, he’s half miracle worker, half disaster waiting to happen. Galfilor’s spells might turn your enemy into a toad—or just as likely, turn your boots into jelly. When he’s not spellcasting, he’s on the lookout for the next great quest and the bravest party of adventurers!

You the Adventurer from Castle of Doom

Meet You, the adventurer with a brave heart and a sword always at the ready! Destined for great things (or at least amusing stories), you value friendship as much as treasure. With a trusty blade and a penchant for witty banter, you charge into quests with optimism and a smile. Whether slaying dragons or cracking jokes, you prove that bravery and camaraderie are the true keys to greatness!
